Finally!

September 5th, 2008

It is about time but Detroit’s embattled Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick finally resigned Thursday.  It is too bad this took most of the year to finish.  I am sure Detroit will be able to finally start healing now.

Here is the timeline.

Detroit Saga Continues

August 7th, 2008

There are few more sordid political stories unraveling these days then that of Detroit Mayer Kwame Kilpatrick and his ongoing legal issues stemming from lying about the sexual relationship he was having with an aid and the ramifications this had on a multimillion dollar city settlement.

Now the Hip Hop Mayor of Detroit is getting the privilege of being locked up in jail overnight per a Judges order.  This all stemmed from Kwame taking a trip to Canada without first informing the court.

When will this all end?  Only when Kwame decides to put the city and state first and resigns.

See the story here.

Snooze Fest

July 13th, 2008

What a bore.  The heavyweight bout 7/12/08 between Wladimir Klitschko and Tony Thompson was so tedious that the 11th round knockout barely caught my attention.  This is exactly what is making this division so unaproachable to American fight fans.  You have the best heavy weight out there (Wladimir Klitschko) fighting inconsistently and without apparrent passion.  Also the opponents are uninspring……Sultan, Tony?  The division needs a hard punching, chance taker who talks the talk but can back it up as well.

Whatever happens please don’t let the next fight for Wladimir be with John Ruiz.  That bout would be so boring that I doubt I would ever be able to watch another bout.

Incomprehensible

This is beyond words.  A teacher in Florida had her class vote on whether a five year old boy with autism should remain in the class or not.  The boy was voted out by a 14 to 2 margin.  The teacher then had the class describe what they did not like about the boy and they came up with terms such as disgusting.

The boy spent the rest of the day in the nurses office and the parents were not even notified until  the mother came to pick up the child.  Understandably the child is disturbed about the incident and the mother has not had him return to class.

his teacher should be ashamed and no longer a teacher.  The district will not comment yet even though the facts of the incident are not being disputed.  Shame…shame…shame.

This type of behavior is not acceptable and no one should put up with this.  The teachers name is  Wendy Portillo of Morningside Elementery School in Port St. Lucie Florida.

Here is the link to school district.  Every parent should be outraged by this type of asinine behavior.  There is also an online petition that I have found to protest the actions here.  If you wish to contact the school directly the following link summarizes the events and gives great contact information here.

Nature can be amazing and brutal!

May 12th, 2008

Just a quick note.  I had to post this incredible photo.  Take a look at the linked photo.  A 12 foot python swallowed a 6 foot alligator.  The alligator apparently scratched the belly of the python from the inside rupturing its stomach.  What a trip!

Tension

April 22nd, 2008

I never intended to post personal things on this blog.  Rather I intended to comment on those news stories or events that interested me and that I felt I wanted to share my perspective on.  Well I guess that changes here.  I am really stressed and full of tension lately.  Between changes moving back home, job changes, home upkeep, kid stresses, medical issues (family) and a host of un-named issues I feel like bursting.

I saw this yesterday and think it might be a perfect stress reliever.

Tension Toy, Pop, Pop, Pop!

What relieves stress more then popping packing bubbles?  This digital replacement sounds like a blast.  Leave it to our good friends in Japan to come up with something like this.  I may consider getting one of these.  I can’t see that they are imported in the USA yet but Ebay has them online available.  They are a bit pricey on Ebay though.

Either way a fascinating stress reliever/toy.

Just Sad

April 8th, 2008

This isn’t particularly newsworthy nor do I have a lot to write about it.  This child prodigy ended up working days as a prostitute because the stress of an overbearing father was too much for her.  Regardless of the validity of her complaint the story is a sad reminder that this is a fallen world.

Babel?

April 1st, 2008

First off this is not an April Fools Joke.
A tower a mile high.  This is the dream of a Saudi prince.  The tower, which will rise 5,250 feet into the air and cost over 5 billion US Dollars, is planned for construction in the Saudi Arabian dessert.  (The Sears Tower is 1,730 feet with antenna!)

I wonder what the purpose of this is?  Can there really be a overwhelming need for a mile high skyscraper in the middle of the dessert?  In a land that has an abundance of space first and oil second what is the great fascination for this?

One wonders if it will be built and if it is will it be another Spruce Goose?

Waste of Humanity - Not Kidding!

March 25th, 2008

Grandmother, Son, Granddaughter plus seven other family members living on the dole and proud of it.

A friend of mine forwarded this to me. I read this several times and then researched to make sure this wasn’t a hoax. I cannot believe this is true. I can’t fathom that there are human beings that are this useless.

This is exactly the kind of excess that conservatives point to when referencing how social welfare is harmful rather then compassionate. Three generations and nearly the entire family lives off the public dole. None of the family members feels guilty. Most of the family seems to feel that they are not only entitled to the public hand outs but seem they deserve to have more.

Granted this is Great Britain but it struck me that the Grandmother claimed she was entitled to be happy. I disagree. As our founding fathers wisely made clear we are guaranteed the pursuit of happiness not happiness itself. That is for us to yearn for, cry for, bleed for and make for ourselves.

I have compassion. I hurt for those in need. This is not need. This is selfish greed and is a disservice to all of humanity.

Walmart.

March 25th, 2008

Wal-Mart claims this is being done for the benefit for all. I really don’t know what to say about this. I don’t want to write about it. I just think this is evil. This is the kind of think that makes Wal-Mart appear evil to America. This woman’s husband had to divorce his wife to get more money for her. Her son has been killed in Iraq. What a horrible story.

Story Link. - This is video.

**UPDATE** 4/02/08 - Wal-Mart backs down.  Agrees not to seek the moneys any longer.  Says that the rules might be worth bending this time around.  Sad it took this type of attention to do the right thing.  See for yourself.
